Writing takes time

A combination of ability, training and development.

When we start our school life, one of our biggest challenges is alphabetization. And is through it that we boost our language system and communication. Still thinking about the school scenario, the same class has different students. And these students will have skills they are better at, even with the same kind of education and method. According to Howard Gardner, this happens because of the multiple intelligences:
  • Logical-Mathematical: the ability to deduce and do operations.
  • Linguistic-Verbal: the skill of learning languages and using voice and text to reach goals.
  • Visual-Spatial: the tendency to recognize and deal with situations that involve visual contact.
  • Bodily-Kinesthetic: the potential someone has to use their body to solve problems or create products.
  • Interpersonal: the aptitude to interact and recognize people's desires, leading to good relationships.
  • Intrapersonal: the capability of knowing oneself and using self-knowledge to achieve an objective.
  • Musical: the competence for playing, appreciating and making up music patterns.
  • Naturalistic: the strength of recognizing and classifying species of nature.
This doesn't mean that each person is born with one kind of intelligence or we can't improve our abilities. Gardner advocates for the multiple intelligences and the fact that we are born with them all, on different levels.

Yet, feeling something is easy doesn't stand for little work. At some point, we need to develop some skills for the different situations we will face.

Think, for example, of someone who has a good understanding of linguistics. They will write a good text, but this work goes beyond linguistics. When focusing on the user, writers think of every word, every structure, the length and reading time, language use, inclusion and accessibility. We analyze images, create descriptions, run concept tests, proofread and edit.

Those steps are part of the process and help bring a good experience while reading a text. It takes a lot of work and time, but, at the end of the day, the result will meet the reader's expectations.
